The Housing Authority for the City of Cumberland, Maryland is a high performing Public Housing Authority operating under the guidelines of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development and is charted under the Annotated Code of Maryland Article 44A. The Housing Authority was established in 1949 and operates independently from that of local government agencies.

Cumberland Housing is made up of two seperate agencies which share the same office, staff and mission which is: (1) to ensure safe, decent, sanitary, affordable and well-maintained housing at a fair market rent; (2) to create opportunities for residents' self-sufficiency and economic independence; (3) to assure fiscal integrity by all low, very low and extremely low-income program participants, and (4) to develop affordable housing, both rental and for sale, in the City of Cumberland and surrounding communities.
